Social Media Brown Bag – twitpic

Full house again at #SMBB this week.

We were interested in trying out posting photos.. some of us weren’t sure if you needed something specialised like an iPhone do to it. Good news is you don’t!

Any photo you take or graphic you create can be posted to your twitter account. It is a simple case of uploading an image.

There are a few different applications you can use to post images to your twitter account.. some are web based, some are for phones and handhelds. @BrandyGale demonstrated twitpic. With this app you can either use the website to upload photos… or it will also give you an email address unique to your twitpic account that you can just email your images to.

@cntyfirerealtor and @thecigarchief were able to take photos on their iPhone and Android phones and post them via Hootsuite.

We had some new faces this week – great to see them out!
Tamara Porter from Design Planet here in Picton, Lisa Burke from Essential Relaxation – she got some passionate first person feedback on her products from the people in the room!, Alex Fida joined the @Angelinesblmfld Crew (our most avid attendees), @aboutimage (aka Jenna Simpson, @hilliercreek(aka Amanda Emdin).

Other topics touched on were:
How much time to spend on social media for business? You could spend 7 hours a day! We all agreed that best practice is to decide how much time you want to spend and schedule it as you would any other work task. Then measure your results and adjust accordingly.

Marilyn Toombs, another regular, is sticking with Linkedin. I think we’ll do a session on this soon. Linkedin is considered the number one professional networking site in the world. It’s purpose is to connect professionals for employment and work. We recently started a Prince Edward County group on Linkedin and are encouraging people to post employment opportunities there. You’ll need to make an account to access the group.

#SMBB a.k.a Social Media Brown Bag is held every Friday from 12.30 – 1.30 in the Large Boardroom, 2nd floor, The Edward, 280 Main Street, #Picton, #PrinceEdwardCounty

Social Media Brown Bag – Insights on Fan Pages

Facebook Fan Page Insights

Great discussion Friday at #SMBB about, amongst other things, Insights on Facebook Fan Pages. I’ve included a snapshot of the insights from the Prince Edward County Fan Page above to give you an idea of what that looks like. My favourite learning is that we have 6 fans who have their language setting on “English, Pirate”.

@angelinesblmfld raised this topic as they were interested to understand who sees their posts from their Fan Page on Facebook. Fan pages have an “Insight” feature that allows you to understand some key information about who your fans are and how you are doing in terms of interacting with them.

@shatteredpec was kind enough to let us root around in her fan page’s innards.. she has a natural knack for conversing online and we all picked up a few pointers from taking a look at her wall posts.

One key point that emerged was that although you can’t message fans directly through your Fan Page, your status updates will appear on your fan’s NewsFeed – so keep those fresh and interesting!

Social Media Brown Bag – Success Stories

smbb_results_twitter

SMBB Results from Today on Twitter

I got to “host” my first #SMBB Friday, now that our social media expert Caitlin den Boer moved on….

Although we lacked the focus and direction that Caitlin usually brought to the sessions pretty much everyone had a story to share… With the more experienced @thecigarchief, @rene-scout and @treatsky in attendance we had a good newbie to expert ratio.

We had a group viewing of the first flip video productions by our die hard attendees from @Angelinesblmfld. Check them out on youtube!

@Angelinesblmfld were joking that their videos were no @croweproductions. Unbeknownst to them Trevor Crowe was sitting right across the table! They hadn’t met him yet but already knew his work through it’s social media promotion within the community. That’s what its all about!

@rene_scout shared a REALLY amazing social media coup pulled off for one of his campaigns by @kelly_kellys … I’m sure the details will be upcoming on his always interesting blog..

And last but not least @thecigarchief experienced a real time #cigar sale over twitter during the meeting.. he gave us tweet by tweet updates…. Some lucky gentleman who’s coming to stay at the Merrill Inn tonight is getting hooked up with some #cigars…..

@thecigarchief is going to bring his new #android phone next week for us all to take a look at if he gets time to buy it…
