PECI 2011 Junior Iron Chef Team

Prince Edward Collegiate Institute’s Junior Iron Chef Team has participated in the Loyalist College Junior Iron Chef Competition seven times over the past 10 years, winning the gold five times and the silver twice.
This year is no exception; in the semi finals held last weekend at Loyalist College, PECI earned the highest score of all participating teams. We wish them best of luck at the finals, coming up on February 19, 2011!
The ongoing success of each team has been based on the student’s  hard work, quest for culinary knowledge and genuine love of cooking. Coordinated by PECI foods teacher Suzanne White who works with the teams year after year.
The secret weapon of our home town team, however, has been the commitment and skills training that have been generously provided from a rotating cast of Prince Edward County chefs including Michael Sullivan of the Merrill Inn, Lili Sullivan of East and Main Bistro and Scott Royce of Waupoos Winery.
The current team is being coached by chef Michael Potters of Angeline’s Restaurant. Team members include Zach DeSousa, Nile Kennedy, Lindsay Palacious, Miranda Miller and Cahrolette Webb.
Not only do the local chefs get involved, but local businesses and private citizens also pitch in annually through sponsorship and attendance at the annual Iron Chef Fundraising dinner which is an opportunity for the team to cook the competition meal they create in a real restaurant environment, a true thrill for both the team and the community.
The evolution of our Junior Iron Chef Team is one more example of the vibrant food and wine community we have here in Prince Edward County.
